Self Coaching Model

Self coaching is a way to become conscious of thoughts which produce feelings that generate unhealthy actions and have larger consequences. It is based on the fact that we create our own realities, through our perception, and reminds me of the 90/10% rule I learned many many years ago - that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.

Here's an example to illustrate how an adjustment in thoughts can result in a drastic change in the result.

C: CIRCUMSTANCE - There are cookies in the kitchen

T: THOUGHT - "I have no willpower" (old thought) --> "I'm learning to make choices that support my health" (new thought)

F: FEELING - Guilt, frustration (old feeling) --> empowered, committed (new feeling)

A: ACTION - Eat the cookies, feel worse (old action) --> Chooses a healthier snack (new action)

R: RESULT - Reinforces belief of 'no willpower' (old result) --> Builds confidence & sees progress towards health goals (new result)

It's that simple, yet profound. I invite you to try it own with a circumstance you are facing and see if you can identify the thoughts and feelings that neutral circumstance is producing, to see if you can make a shift.
